Holiday exploration of Wisła: Holiday home as the ideal base

18.07.2023

Wisła is primarily perceived as the hometown of Adam Małysz. That’s a bit unfair because both the history of Wisła and the number of local attractions easily outshine other popular resorts. Think Wisła is just about the ski jump? Find out why it’s worth staying at the Beskidy Holiday House and why you might want to stay longer.

Why DW Beskidy?

The place we stay during our holiday should meet two important conditions. The first is a guarantee of rest. Beskidy Holiday House guarantees peace and quiet away from the typical tourist hustle in comfortable rooms and apartments with catering and a swimming pool.

The second condition is location. Accommodation should not be far from the most important attractions. Moreover, all of them should be equally easily accessible. DW Beskidy fully meets this requirement. It is not only an ideal place for comfortable relaxation but also a phenomenal base for those for whom the view from the balcony is not enough. Everything is close enough to get to without any difficulty and far enough so that the presence of other tourists in the Beskids is not too exhausting.

What to see in Wisła?

Wisła is a relatively small town of just eleven thousand inhabitants, well known both to active and passive ski enthusiasts. This is the hometown of Adam Małysz, whose successes have elevated the level of Polish ski jumping to unprecedented heights. The ski jump in Wisła-Malinka is named after him. During the summer season, the lift to the ski jump operates daily, so if you want to see what it’s like to be on top, this is your chance.

Wisła also houses the Skiing Museum, and contrary to what one might think, it is not entirely filled with trophies of the “eagle from Wisła.” There are over 80 exhibits, including skis from the late 19th century, which are about 150 years old! You can also find equipment once used by Erwin Fiedor and Piotr Fijas. Of course, Adam Małysz also contributed his share.

Wrocław has dwarfs, and Wisła has bears. The Bear Trail is one of the city’s attractions. A walk combined with searching for bear figures is great fun and a relaxation proposal for both children and adults. Currently, the trail includes 9 bears, and their locations are intentional. Near each is an attraction for both young and adult walkers.

Other attractions in Wisła

The Habsburg Hunting Lodge on Lipowa Street, relocated from under Barania Góra, now houses a branch of the PTTK.

The Adam Małysz Figure made of white chocolate – the only such monument in the world!

Avenue of Sports Stars – proof that it's worth watching your step on a walk!

Beskid Museum – showing how things were in the Beskids long ago and how they are now.

Evangelical Augsburg Church of St. Peter and Paul – it is 150 years old and is a gem of Wisła's architecture.

Kopczyński Park in Wisła – a place that clearly proves that not all parks are alike. This one is unique, and it’s worth reserving a whole day to explore it.

Ecological Education Center – learning through play, a brilliant idea for a walk with kids. Gardens, little gardens, playground, a casual dose of knowledge. What more could you want?

Parachuting and Special Forces Museum – theoretically a treat for fans of the Silent Unseen, but nobody leaves dissatisfied.

These are, of course, not all the attractions of Wisła – there are many more. The easiest way to discover them is on-site, so we invite you to the Beskidy Holiday House!

Tourist trails near Wisła

Most people coming to Wisła looking for accommodation with meals do so for the beauty of the Beskids and do not want to limit themselves to just walking in the city. We have good news for them as well. Seven hiking trails have been marked near Wisła.

Three are classified as tourist trails, and four are walking trails – something for everyone depending on their needs and abilities.

Those with the desire and stamina can walk the blue trail all the way to Czech Nydek. Important – you need to carry an ID card with you; this applies to children as well. The green trail leads to Soszów Wielki, and the yellow one to Szczyrk.

For those just starting their adventure exploring the Beskids, the walking trails are better. They are only a few kilometers long and relatively easy. They are perfect for hiking with children.

Summer events in Wisła

Wisła is a tourist town where everyone – absolutely everyone – can find something for themselves. Those who want to hide away in the silence of the Beskids, and those who are not afraid of company and a bit of noise, should check the cultural event calendar.

The end of the month brings the 60th Beskid Culture Week (July 29 – August 6, 2023) – music, dance, singing, local rituals, Beskid delicacies, and a folk art fair attracting tourists not only from Poland each year. Today it is an event of an international nature.

In mid-August (August 12–13, 2023), the Cheese Festival will be held in Wisła for the sixth time. During this time, you can not only savor local delicacies but also see how cheese is made! The cheese-making shows are prepared with great care each year, and this year will be no different.

The end of summer (August 26, 2023) is the time of Harvest Festival and Honey Festival, a beautiful, very picturesque celebration of local farmers and beekeepers, combined with fairs, processions, and workshops. It will be picturesque, atmospheric, and somewhat nostalgic because summer will come to an end…

For consolation

Wisła doesn’t know what the end of the season means. The end of summer only means that pupils return to school. However, local attractions and holiday houses do not die out; they still offer accommodation with meals and accommodation with a swimming pool. Swimming is the best way to end the day, partly because it helps relax and loosen muscles tense after a whole day of walking.

September and October are the time for those who like walking on empty trails and feel good on uncrowded streets. Already in November, the winter season will begin and last until spring. And right after that, the Beskids will turn beautifully green and welcome the first longing hikers.

The Beskidy Holiday House operates year-round without interruption and is an excellent base and resting place at any time. Here, the season never ends.
